Phnom Penh (FN), July 29 - Former Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) lawmaker Kong Bora and his family members Kong Korm, and Kong Monika posted photos on Facebook of their inked finger to confirm that they had already voted in the election of the 6th National Assembly on Sunday, slapping former opposition leader Sam Rainsy’s “Clean Finger” campaign.
"Even though there is a five-year ban on politics, I am an ordinary citizen so I go to vote to make a positive change,” wrote Kong Bora.
Kong Bora and Kong Korm were banned from politics for five years after the Supreme Court dissolved the CNRP in late November after its leader Kem Sokha was jailed on treason charged with allegedly conspiring with foreigners to topple the government through a colour revolution.
Kong Monika, the youngest son of Kong Korm, former president of the Sam Rainsy Party, also established the Khmer Will Party to race in the 6th mandate election.
Over 70% casted their vote in the 6th National Assembly members election by 1 p.m, according to Dim Sovannarom, National Election Committe spokesman.
The high voter turnout reflects a failure of Rainsy's clean finger campaign - appealing people not to got to vote.
