Phnom Penh (FN), July 29 - The 6th National Assembly members election kicked off on Sunday morning with only one day, starting from 7:00am to 3:00pm.
In total of 20 political parties race in this 2018 general election with 8,380,217 eligible voters registered to vote.
Eligible voters, including students, staff, employees, company workers and garment workers began to leave Phnom Penh on Saturday to their respective hometown.
The National Election Committee recognized more than 90,000 international and national observers; over 500 international observers from over 70 institutions across the globe, including the European Union, the US, Asia, Australia and others, compared to only 243 international observers in the fifth mandate election.
Cambodian democratic elections was first held in 1993 after the Paris Peace Accord in October 23, 1991 with the supported by the United Nations.
Among 120 seats in the National Assembly, four political parties participated in the first elections in 1993.
For the second mandate in 1998, the National Assembly seats increased to 122 and seven political parties raced.
National Assembly seats in the third mandate in 2003 increased to 123 and seven political parties raced.
In the fourth mandate of 2008, there were 123 seats with 11 political parties participated in the election.
For the fifth mandate of 2013, the National Assembly has 123 seats and the eight parties participated.
The National Assembly seats rose to 125 in the sixth mandate 2018 and 20 political parties raced.
