Phnom Penh (FN), July 24 - The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology warned Tuesday that an under-construction hydropower dam collapsed in Sanamxay district of Laos' southeastern Attapeu Province, 70 kilometers from Cambodian border.

The Xepian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam collapsed at 20:00 p.m. local time on Monday, releasing five billion cubic meters of waters, sweeping away several houses, claiming several human lives and leaving hundreds of people missing, said the statement of the administration on Tuesday.

The Attapeu Provincial Administration Office has announced relief aid for flood victims.

Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources said that the water flows into Se Kong River, a river that joins the Mekong River near Stung Treng town of Cambodia.

The Ministry called on people along the river to be highly cautious, and relevant authority to standby to provide emergency aid if needs be.
