Phnom Penh (FN), July 23 – “The completion of the mission of the Cambodian blue beret engineers represents Cambodia’s strong commitment in solidarity for peace, security and humanitarian affairs for the world,” said Defense Minister Tea Banh at the homecoming ceremony of Cambodian blue beret engineers that successfully completed the mission in Mali and South Sudan.
The ceremony was held at the Friendship Building of the Council of Ministers, Phnom Penh, with the participation of the leaders and general commanders of the defense ministry, United Nation representatives, national and international guests, and journalists.
According to Defense Ministry spokesman General Chum Socheat, the repatriated Cambodia peacekeeping force in total of 372 includes 165 airfield engineer-189, 144 explosive ordnance disposal-123 from Mali, and 73 military police-618 from South Sudan.
Over the past 12 years, Cambodia has dispatched 5,486 peacekeepers in total, 254 females to 10 missions in eight countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Chad, Mali and Central African Republic. Cambodia not only favors peace and stability in her own kingdom but beyond.
