Phnom Penh (FN), July 20 - The National Election Committee (NEC), on Friday, issued a recommendation concerning the electoral observations for associations and NGOs.
In order for the election to proceed smoothly in a free and fair manner, observers shall wear the ID issued by NEC during their observations.
According to the NEC, only the associations and NGOs registered to observe the general election 2018, recognized by the NEC, have the rights to observe the electoral process and issue a statement on the election in accordance with the law, regulations and procedures of the NEC, and code of conduct of the electoral observers.
As of July 18 at 5:30 p.m, the deadline for national observers to submit their applications, NEC has approved 80,000 national observers from 107 institutions for the upcoming 6th National Assembly elections, according to the NEC's press release on Wednesday.
National observers are witnesses of free, fair, and just election; they must submit a written report on their observations and conclusions on election process to the NEC at the end of the election.
Commune councilors, election candidates, village chiefs and their assistants and armed forces are not allowed to be observers.
Cambodia will hold her general election on 29 July 2018.
