Phnom Penh (FN), July 17 – National Election Committee (NEC), on Tuesday, held the ink quality experiment at the NEC headquarter based at Ministry of Interior to clarify the quality of indelible voting ink on top of the press release issued shortly rejecting the ill-intended circles’ baseless accusations that the ink will kill the voter within 24 hours.
The experiment ceremony was attended by 100 representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, ministry of interior, ministry of information, ministry of tourism, embassy of China, embassy or Timor-Leste, embassy of the Philippines, and national and international journalists, according to NEC’s press release dated on Tuesday.
“Twelve representatives of political parties, NGOs, and two representatives of the NEC including NEC member and chairman of the meeting Hel Sarat and NEC spokesperson Dim Sovanarom soaked their fingers in the ink. As a result, it is indelible despite the attempts to remove by five different types of soaps and that the ink does not affect health,” NEC wrote in the statement.
NEC ordered 51,000 bottles of ink from Indian company, Mysore paints and varnish limited, with a total cost of $800,000, delivered to Cambodia on 5 July and 7 July 2018 to be used in more than 20,000 voting offices across the country.
NEC spokesman Hang Puthea said on Monday that NEC will deliver two bottles to each polling station, keep 3,292 bottles at the Provincial/municipal Election Commission (PEC) and 1,774 bottles at the NEC.
