Ratanakiri (FN), July 13 - The import of vegetable and fruits from Vietnam into Rattanakiri has decreased, as the people preferred local chemical-free agricultural products of the ethnic community in the northwest of Cambodia.
Roeun Sophat, a 49-year-old resident at Banlung city of Ratanakiri said that she bought vegetables and fruit from indigenous people for cooking, as the market near her home sell some organic and non-chemical fruits and vegetable.
Kwen Ra, 47, an indigenous, said he harvested organic vegetable and fruits from his plantations and gathered some other types from the naturally grown habitat in the wilderness, especially during the rainy season when the soils are absolutely fertile.
According to the local vendors, the import of vegetable and fruit from Vietnam to Cambodia’s northwest region declined in rainy seasons, as the indigenous people’s plantations could supply the demand in the region.
They called on people to continue supporting the organic homegrown vegetable and fruit and urged farmers to grow different types in order to meet the demands.
