Phnom Penh (FN), July 9 – Civil Society Alliance Forum (CSAF), on Monday, organized a training course in Phnom Penh for civil society observers for the upcoming election of the 6th Mandate of the National Assembly, led by Dim Sovannarom, spokesperson of the National Election Committee (NEC), attended by 1,038 observers, 374 women, from 94 organizations-associations across the 25 provinces.
The deployment of over 1,000 CSAF members to observe the July’s election reflected the support and strengthening of Cambodia's democracy, particularly to ensure a fair, neutral, and transparent election, Kim Rithviseth, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CSAF addressed at the opening of the course.
"As a sovereign state, the participation of local civil society observers in the election is prerequisite to ensure a free, fair, and just election in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia and other applicable laws,” said Kim Rithviseth adding that “electoral observation contributes to promoting democracy, peace, stability, and national development.”
The course provided a basic understanding of electoral process and procedure and code of conducts for observers, he underlined.
The July's election will be held on 29 July 2018. All the 20 political parties will participate in the 21 days of electoral campaign from 7-27 July 2018.
