(Kuala Lumpur): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on 27 October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei highly valued the progress of the relations and excellent cooperation between Cambodia and Australia, following the successful bilateral meeting between the two prime ministers in Melbourne, Australia, in March 2024. He highlighted that the bilateral trade volume between the two countries had risen to nearly USD 600 million in 2024. He also expressed appreciation to Australia for increasing the number of scholarships for Cambodian students, from 50 to 62 for 2025, in response to his request.
The premier further noted the advancement of cooperation in the defence and security sectors. He mentioned the visit of the Royal Australian Navy’s frigate HMAS Ballarat to Preah Sihanouk Autonomous Port and its goodwill visit to Ream Naval Base from 10-15 October 2025.
In response, the Australian prime minister shared the positive assessment of bilateral relations and cooperation in trade and economy, security and defence, as well as people-to-people exchanges. He recalled his three previous visits to Cambodia and acknowledged Cambodia’s great potential in the tourism sector. He also commended Cambodia’s efforts in combating cybercrime and online fraud, which he regarded as shared challenges for all countries. The Australian Prime Minister further welcomed the positive development in the resolution of the Cambodia–Thailand border issue and highly valued the leadership role of Samdech Thipadei in the progress made.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and expanding Cambodia–Australia cooperation.
