(Phnom Penh): More than 1000 people came together Sunday evening for a peaceful walk along Chaktomuk Walk Street, in a powerful march of unity and compassion. Organised by the volunteer-led initiative #CambodiaLovesPeace, the event aimed to celebrate peace and solidarity in Cambodia.
The walk next to Quayside Riverside, where participants gathered in white T-shirts united with the slogan "Cambodia Loves Peace" to walk respectfully through the heart of the capital — not in protest, but as a symbol of hope and togetherness.
“We expected hundreds, but thousands joined the peaceful march. We walked mostly in silence — yet our unity spoke volumes. Cambodians truly yearn for peace. We’ve just launched an emergency fundraising initiative www.cambodialovespeace.com with committees based in Australia to support displaced families and children, and our next step is to help them rebuild;” said Piyane Ung.
“Seeing people from different walks of life come together, walk in silence, and share this peaceful moment — it reminded me that even the simplest acts of unity can leave a deep impact,” said Rainnie Dara.
A Quiet Evening with a Loud Message
Participants arrived between 4:00 and 4:30 PM to collect their official #CambodiaLovesPeace T-shirts, before the walk began with a national flag tribute at 5:30 PM.
The silent march continued from Quayside Riverside down Chaktomuk WalkStreet toward the Royal Palace, where the group paused to sing “Pong Savada Khmer” together before returning to their starting point.
With no shouting, banners, or loudspeakers — just soft music and steady footsteps — the march was a powerful statement of unity, calm, and hope. The total walk lasted about 45 minutes.
