(Phnom Penh): Chum Sounry, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Cambodia called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), urging all parties to resolve the conflict through peaceful means.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday (Jul. 25), Chum Sounry addressed the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand border tensions. The UNSC convened an urgent meeting at 3:00 p.m. New York time (2:00 a.m. on July 26, Cambodia time), where Cambodia’s Permanent Representative delivered a strong intervention.

At the UNSC meeting, Cambodia highlighted Thailand’s large-scale attacks against Cambodia, involving fighter jets, cluster bombs, and advanced weaponry.

Chum Sounry emphasized, “In the Cambodian representative’s intervention, we reiterated Cambodia’s appeal for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and for a peaceful resolution. This is a key point in Cambodia’s statement.”

Clashes between Cambodia and Thailand began on the morning of July 24, 2025, near the Ta Moan Thom temple in Oddar Meanchey province, later spreading to other border areas after Thai forces launched attacks to invade Cambodian territory.
