(Phnom Penh): Kung Phoak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, stated that the meeting with members of the diplomatic corps in Cambodia was held to apprise them of developments concerning the Cambodian-Thai border tensions. He affirmed that the views expressed by the diplomatic missions were in alignment with Cambodia’s own position, calling for a resolution through peaceful means, justice, and adherence to international law.

Kung Phoak made these remarks during a press conference on Friday (25 July) on the outcomes of the meeting between Cambodian diplomats and foreign envoys at the Ministry.

Following a detailed briefing on the current border situation by Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, the attending ambassadors expressed their concern and posed questions regarding the consequences of the Thai military’s aggression against Cambodian forces, according to Secretary of State Kung Phoak.

“Everyone unanimously called for a peaceful solution based on international law. This aligns precisely with what Cambodia has consistently sought. We have never desired war, nor have we, for months, contemplated invading anyone’s territory. What we pursue is peace and stability, but a peace grounded in justice, legitimacy, and adherence to international law, not a peace imposed by threats and aggression,” he underscored.

In addition, he highlighted that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet had conveyed a positive message to the Rotating Chair of ASEAN and also the prime minister of Malaysia, in response to the latter’s request for a ceasefire, calling on the Thai side to immediately halt its intrusion into Cambodia’s sovereign territory.
