(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), expressed pride in Cambodia’s accelerating economic momentum during the first half of 2025, noting that the national economy is projected to achieve a 5.2% growth rate this year.
His remarks were made on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the CPP, held on Saturday morning (Jun. 28) at the CPP headquarters.
Samdech Techo highlighted: “In this positive trajectory, we can proudly note the strong growth momentum of Cambodia’s economy in the first half of 2025. Macroeconomic stability has been well maintained, inflation remains low, the Riel is stable, and international reserves continue to rise. According to projections, the national economy is expected to grow by 5.2% in 2025.”
He also reported that during the first five months of 2025, international trade volume reached USD 25.503 billion, an 18% increase. Exports totalled USD 12.014 billion, up 17.98% compared to the same period in 2024.
Regarding investment, the Council for the Development of Cambodia approved 290 projects in the first five months of 2025, an increase of 137 projects. These represent approximately USD 4.2 billion in investment capital, up by USD 1.4 billion, and are expected to create around 200,000 jobs.
The number of enterprises also increased, rising from 44,798 to 45,386 establishments, with total employment growing to approximately 1.87 million, an increase of about 50,000 workers.
In the agricultural sector, dry-season rice cultivation in 2025 covered 907,889 hectares, an increase of 67,701 hectares compared to last year. Production reached 4,254,508 tons, up by 418,000 tons or 10.90%.
Meanwhile, Cambodia welcomed 2.95 million international tourists in the first five months of 2025, an increase of 11.7%. Domestic tourists totalled 13.16 million, marking a 50% rise compared to the same period in 2024.
