(Phnom Penh): President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Samdech Techo Hun Sen, highlighted the growth of Cambodia’s international trade volume and the approval of new investment projects during the first five months of 2025.
His remarks were made on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the CPP, held on Saturday morning (Jun. 28) at the CPP headquarters.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen reported that in the first five months of 2025, Cambodia’s international trade volume reached USD 25.503 billion, marking an 18 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024. Exports alone accounted for USD 12.014 billion, rising by 17.98 per cent.
During the first five months of 2025, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved 290 investment projects, an increase of 137 projects compared to the previous year, with a total investment capital of approximately USD 4.2 billion, an increase of USD 1.4 billion. These projects are expected to create roughly 200,000 new jobs.
According to Samdech Techo, the growth of Cambodia’s economy in the first half of 2025 has been supported by strong macroeconomic stability, low inflation, a stable Riel exchange rate, and rising international reserves. As a result, Cambodia’s economy is forecasted to grow by 5.2 per cent in 2025.
The General Department of Customs and Excise reported that Cambodia’s major trading partners during this period included China, with a trade volume of USD 7.6 billion (+27.5%), the United States with USD 4.4 billion (+27%), Viet Nam with USD 3.8 billion (+8%), Thailand with USD 1.8 billion (+8.3%), and Japan with over USD 1 billion (+28%). Other key trading partners also contributed to the country’s expanding trade activity.
Cambodia’s main export products included garments, footwear, rubber, agricultural products, electrical components, and various manufactured goods.
Meanwhile, the surge in investment projects over the past five months reflects continued investor confidence in Cambodia’s economic stability and social security. These are underpinned by sustained peace through the government's win-win policy, with a firm commitment to preserving peace at any cost.
Cambodia is a member of several bilateral and regional trade agreements, significantly expanding its market access. Notably, it is part of the ASEAN market with a combined population of over 662 million, and the RCEP covers a market of more than 2.3 billion people. These markets offer substantial benefits for the manufacturing and supply of goods and services produced by all investors’ enterprises.
