(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Viengthong Siphandone, President of the Supreme People's Court of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on 5 May 2025 at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, Viengthong Siphandone expressed her sincere gratitude to the Samdech Thipadei for the courtesy visit.
She stated that the main purpose of her visit to Cambodia was to strengthen and broaden the relationship and cooperation between the supreme courts of both nations, thereby further deepening the bonds of friendship between them.
She also informed Samdech Thipadei that, with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Judicial Cooperation scheduled for tomorrow, the two supreme judicial institutions will exchange experiences and information, collaborate in combating transnational crimes, including human trafficking, illegal drug trafficking, and online scams, and continue their cooperation in international forums.
In response, Samdech Thipadei expressed his satisfaction with the strong relations between the two countries, which were upgraded to the level of a “Comprehensive and Long-term Strategic Partnership” in 2019.
The premier emphasised that the strong bond of friendship between the two countries is a legacy passed down by previous generations of leaders, and that the Royal Government of Cambodia of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly will continue to deepen this relationship. Premier Hun Manet also highlighted the steady progress of Cambodia–Laos cooperation in various sectors, particularly in national defence, security, energy, and trade.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also highly appreciated the progress in cooperation between the Supreme Courts of the two countries, underscoring that this growing partnership will significantly contribute to law enforcement efforts to combat and thwart cross-border crimes, including cybercrime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
Samdech Thipadei also expressed support for and encouraged the judicial institutions of both countries to further strengthen and broaden their cooperation and relations at all levels.
