(Ho Chi Minh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, and Trần Thanh Mẫn, Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam, expressed their full support for the agreement between the governments of Cambodia and Viet Nam to boost bilateral trade volume to USD 20 billion.

The commitment was made during a courtesy and working meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Trần Thanh Mẫn, held Tuesday afternoon in Ho Chi Minh City, where Samdech Techo and his delegation attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Viet Nam’s National Reunification.

According to Senate spokesperson Chea Thirith, President Trần Thanh Mẫn warmly welcomed Hun Sen’s high-level delegation and expressed great satisfaction at their participation in the anniversary events. He highlighted the symbolic importance of Cambodia’s contribution, particularly the participation of 120 Cambodian soldiers in a grand parade, showcasing the enduring solidarity between the two countries’ armed forces.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen praised the Vietnamese Parliament, government, and people for the successful organization of the 50th-anniversary celebrations. He expressed deep appreciation for the warm and cordial hospitality extended to the Cambodian delegation.

Samdech Techo underlined that the celebrations were a meaningful event, recalling the historic significance of 30 April 1975 — the date marking Viet Nam’s reunification. He also noted that April 30 holds special significance for Cambodia, as the country later achieved full ASEAN membership on the same date in 1999, in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Trần Thanh Mẫn for his condolences following the recent passing of Samdech Techo’s elder brother.

Samdech Techo also highly commended the close cooperation between the legislative bodies of both nations, noting particularly the exchange of high-level visits, including the 2023 official visit by Cambodia’s National Assembly President to Vietnam and the Vietnamese National Assembly President’s visit to Cambodia in November 2024.

Samdech Techo proposed that the Chairman of Viet Nam’s National Assembly continue to support cooperation between the Cambodian and Vietnamese governments. He affirmed that the Cambodian legislature is always prepared to further strengthen collaboration between the legislative and executive branches of both nations. He urged continued support for government-to-government cooperation and affirmed the Cambodian Senate’s readiness to strengthen both legislative and executive cooperation.

In addition, Samdech Techo welcomed the recent signing of a bilateral trade cooperation agreement for 2025–2026 between Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce and Viet Nam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, signed in Hanoi on April 28, 2025. The agreement includes the establishment of a joint trade commission to promote the USD 20 billion trade target and to resolve border-related issues.

Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, for his part, praised Cambodia’s remarkable development progress, which he witnessed during his 2024 visit. He commended Cambodia’s government and people for their achievements.

During the meeting, the Vietnamese chairman also proposed further strengthening ties across party, government, parliamentary, and people-to-people channels. In particular, he suggested the establishment of a Viet Nam-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Association — an idea that Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly endorsed.
