(Sihanoukville): Sun Chanthol, First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), affirmed that the CDC continues to strive to improve and enhance the business and investment climate in Cambodia, and remains committed to opening the country’s doors to foreign investors.
Sun Chanthol spoke on Monday (Apr. 28) during the groundbreaking ceremony for Chinese electric vehicle company BYD’s new car assembly plant at the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone in Cambodia.
Sun Chanthol underscored, “At the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), we continue to work on improving and enhancing the business and investment climate by promoting the dissemination of investment laws, expanding investment opportunities overseas, and streamlining and simplifying related procedures, especially through the digitalisation of public service delivery.”
He noted that, to create a business environment responsive to investors’ needs and concerns, the Royal Government has established several mechanisms, including the Royal Government-Private Sector Forum, which has been organised 19 times. There are also regular dialogues between the state and the private sector, including Cambodia-Japan, Cambodia-Korea, Cambodia-United States, and Cambodia-Europe dialogues, aimed at resolving the challenges and concerns faced by businesses and investors operating in Cambodia.
Meanwhile, on 27 November 2024, the CDC officially launched the Cambodia Investment Project Management (cdcIPM) system, an online registration platform that allows investors to apply for qualified investment project from anywhere. The system covers the full process, including application submission, payment of fees, and the receipt of project registration certificates in digital format, and it will eventually be connected to other relevant ministries and institutions.
Sun Chanthol added that the cdcIPM system features a special function that enables both applicants and CDC leadership to track application progress at any time, ensuring that investment project requests are processed within 20 working days, in line with the current investment law.
He also encouraged all investors seeking to register new investment projects or expand existing ones with the CDC to utilise the Cambodia Investment Project Management system for greater convenience and time-saving.
