(Phnom Penh): Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and spouse departed Cambodia on Thursday (Apr. 24) after concluding a fruitful official visit from 23-24 April 2025.
During their visit, Paetongtarn Shinawatra and spouse were granted a Royal Audience by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Palace. She also paid separate courtesy calls on President of the Senate Hun Sen and President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary. She also laid wreath at the Independence Monument and paid tribute to the late king father.
During the bilateral meeting with Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive progress made in bilateral relations and cooperation across all sectors, recognising the two countries as good neighbours and strategic partners. With 2025 marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Thailand, the two prime ministers agreed to further strengthen and expand their strategic partnership.
The two sides also expressed satisfaction with the official opening of the Cambodian Consulate General in Songkhla Province and the Thai Consulate General in Siem Reap Province, as well as the upcoming official inauguration of the Cambodia-Thailand Friendship Bridge (Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian).
Samdech Thipadei extended his gratitude to the Thai side for their continued care and support for Cambodian workers in Thailand, including the recent waiver of re-entry permit fees for workers returning home during the traditional New Year. He also thanked Thai investors and entrepreneurs for their confidence in Cambodia’s investment environment. In return, Prime Minister Paetongtarn expressed appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its ongoing support for Thai investors operating in the Kingdom.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also expressed his gratitude to the Thai government for not allowing any individual or group to use Thai territory to interfere in Cambodia’s internal affairs or carry out activities that could harm the Kingdom. He affirmed that Cambodia would uphold the same principle in return. Additionally, both leaders pledged to strengthen cooperation to dismantle criminal networks operating along the Cambodian-Thai border.
During a courtesy call with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, the Thai prime minister expressed that both she and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet are fortunate to have fathers who are strong leaders and valuable advisors to their children. Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated the successful talks between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, including the signing of several cooperation agreements in the fields of labour, environment, transportation, and connectivity. He expressed his hope that the Royal Governments of Cambodia and Thailand will work together to elevate their current strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership in the future.
In a courtesy call with Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, President Khuon Sudary regarded Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s visit to Cambodia as a significant event for the peoples, governments, and parliaments of both countries. She stated that the visit has provided fresh momentum to the strategic partnership between Cambodia and Thailand. Despite regional and international changes and challenges, the strategic partnership between the two nations remains strong, resilient, and continuously progressing.
The Royal Governments of Cambodia and Thailand also signed seven key cooperation documents include:
1. Agreement of the employment of workers between the Royal Governments of Cambodia and Thailand.
2. Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Governments of Cambodia and Thailand on labour cooperation.
3. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand on trans-boundary environmental pollution cooperation.
4. Agreement between the Royal Governments of Cambodia and Thailand on the management and maintenance of the Cambodia-Thai Friendship Bridge (Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian).
5. Agreement between the Royal Governments of Cambodia and Thailand on the construction of the new border bridge at Phsa Prum-Ban Pakard international border.
6. The record of discussions for the technical assistance on the detailed design of the improvement of the National Road No. 57 project (Battambang-Prum International Gate) between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia and the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency of Thailand.
7. The exchange of notes of the projects on the strengthening of the capacity of the Cambodian-Thai Skills Development Centres.
