Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 28 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet told the former opposition leader Sam Rainsy that the Funan Techo Canal project has undergone a comprehensive 26-month study to assess its impacts and socioeconomic benefits.

The premier spoke on Sunday (Apr. 28) during his meeting with more than 5,000 representatives of informal economy at OCIC, Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei’s confirmation was made in response to Sam Rainsy’s criticism saying that the project [Funan Techo Canal Project] was implemented hastily without conducting a concrete study.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warned the former opposition leader not to use false information to baselessly criticise the project. He also expressed disbelief that Rainsy, who used to be an Economy minister, would fail to recognize the nature of a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project.
