Paris (FN), Jan. 19 – Cambodia and France reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, security, stability, and freedom of navigation and transit in the South China Sea, as well as the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with the principles of universal recognition of international law, according to the Joint Declaration of the Dialogue between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and French President Emmanuel Macron on 18 January 2024 in Paris, France.

The two sides noted the efforts of ASEAN and China in implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties (DOC) in the South China Sea and expressed intention to conclude negotiations as soon as possible to establish a code of conduct in the South China Sea in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, the declaration added.
