Koh Kong (FN), Nov. 30 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that the seventh-mandate Royal Government will uphold the policy set by Samdech Techo Hun Sen's administration by refraining from directly initiating hydropower projects on the Mekong River to protect the river ecosystem and environment.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Nov. 30) during a groundbreaking ceremony for a 150MW Stung Tatai Leu hydropower dam in Koh Kong province.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that while development is inevitable, it requires careful consideration of its impacts.

"I would like to inform that the seventh-mandate Royal Government, following the path set by Samdech Techo Hun Sen's leadership, will refrain from directly initiating any hydropower projects on the Mekong River to protect the Mekong River ecosystem and natural environment”, Samdech Thipadei underscored.

According to the report by Energy Minister Keo Rattanak, in the last 15 years, the development of the electricity sector in Cambodia has made great progress as well as achieving a series of brilliant achievements.

On this basis, the seventh-mandate Royal Government has set the direction for the further development of the electricity sector including ensuring access to sufficient, independent, stable, reliable, and affordable electricity throughout Cambodia. The government aims to enhance the stability and quality of electricity supply while modernizing communication and services for consumers, prioritizing ease, transparency, and efficiency.
