Kampong Chhnang (FN), Nov. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and competent authorities to ensure a proper maintenance of National Road No. 5 and other state infrastructures.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Nov. 22) during an inauguration for the official use of National Road No. 5 from Prek Kdam to Battambang and groundbreaking for the construction from Serei Sophorn to Poipet.

“The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in collaboration with provincial authorities along National Road No. 5, must create and enforce a robust mechanism for the ongoing maintenance of this vital national thoroughfare. The objective is to uphold optimal conditions for passengers, and in the event of any damage, swift repairs must be conducted to avert substantial deterioration in the long term,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, along with relevant ministries, must also establish a collaborative mechanism to monitor and regularly repair the quality of all infrastructure constructions, the premier added.

Samdech Thipadei also highlighted the importance of the Transport Ministry and stakeholders in maintaining a balance among various infrastructure development projects. This includes the construction of roads, bridges, sewerage, water, and electricity, following a master plan to avoid individual efforts that could result in losses to the national budget, aid funds, and unnecessary difficulties for the people.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also urged road users to continue to strictly abide by the traffic laws, and be responsible for road usage. Regular inspections of vehicles' technical specifications are also essential for compliance and safety.
