Paris, France (FN), Nov. 16 – Cambodian King His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni said that more than 30 countries have contributed to the protection of Cambodia's great heritage in the best possible conditions.

His Majesty addressed the 4th Intergovernmental Conference on Angkor, held on Wednesday (Nov. 15) at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.

"For 30 years, our French and Japanese friends have been collaborating with UNESCO to provide a model of great and effective multilateral cooperation that has been praised by all national-international circles. To date, more than 30 countries have contributed in various forms to the protection of our vast heritage in the best of conditions. We applaud the current format for the extension of the International Coordinating Committee (CIC) mandate for the next 10 years,” the king underlined.

The king added that after achieving the best results of the redevelopment work that France and Japan started in 1993, especially in the field of archeology and tourism infrastructure in line with the goals of the past and the present, the focus is on setting an ambitious policy for the sustainable development of Angkor, Preah Vihear, Sambor Prei Kuk and Koh Ker. This Sustainable Development Policy must include a clear and thorough plan of ecological management.

On the other hand, Cambodia is very pleased with the progress of the CIC in other countries, underscoring the international solidarity that we aspire to witness increasingly in a world marked by more frequent divisions than unity, the king underlined.

On the occasion, the Kingdom of Cambodia expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude, especially to the Federal Republic of Germany, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of India, the Republic of Italy, and charities of the United States and the United Kingdom.

His Majesty the king said that the great quality of these partners and working with talented young people create a perfect competitive spirit. International solidarity is a reality in Angkor. This solidarity must be protected, expanded and widely disseminated.
