Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the Royal Government has put in place various measures to assist tour operators in Siem Reap, speaking on Thursday morning (Nov. 16) during an inauguration for the official launch of Siem Reap Angkor International Airport in Siem Reap province.

The premier added that the government will consider connecting direct flights to potential tourist destinations in other countries and expanding the scope of border card use.

Meanwhile, Samdech Thipadei underlined that as the host country, Cambodia must establish facilitating policies and streamlined mechanisms for the efficient implementation of initiatives. He underscored the urgency of promptly forming a tourism council to serve as an organizing body, responsible for developing an action plan, leading and implementing all facilitation aspects.

On the occasion, the premier also recommended a comprehensive set of measures aimed at offering incentives for the private sector operators in Siem Reap through tax mechanisms. These measures are designed to encourage and alleviate tax-related challenges, providing reasonable interest rates for operators within the tourism sector.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei also stated that in order to further contribute to attracting tourists to visit Siem Reap, the government has also helped to reduce energy costs, despite the increase in electricity prices in other countries.

Premier Hun Manet emphasized that Siem Reap Angkor International Airport will serve as a robust and pivotal asset for tourism in Siem Reap.

During his meeting with the private sector on 13 November 2023, Samdech Thipadei outlined key principles for Siem Reap province and officially designated 2023 as the "Visit Siem Reap Year 2024" to intensify the promotion of tourism in the region.

In October 2023, Samdech Thipadei also held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Prime Minister, where they mutually agreed to designate 2024 as the year of people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
