Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 15 – Senior Minister in charge of Special Missions Sok Siphana said China’s significant investments in Cambodia’s physical infrastructure development, which have improved the country’s competitiveness in attracting FDI in manufacturing.

Senior Minister Sok Siphana led a Cambodian delegation to attend the “2023 Global Chinese Economic and Technology (GCET) Summit”, held on 06-07 November 2023 in Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China, under the theme of “Great Reset: Powering Growth, Technology and Regional Prosperity”.

The two-day summit aimed to advance economic and trade opportunities among the member countries of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). It engaged in discussions on the potential of BRICS nations to become an influential economic force in a multipolar world and explored China’s role in the global shift of power.

“The Cambodia-China FTA and the RCEP have radically transformed Cambodia’s trade landscape, opening up new market access for Cambodian agricultural products and commodities,” Sok Siphana underscored.

Sok Siphana delivered a Special Address underlining the dramatic changes in the global order and the need to revitalize multilateralism to adequately address contemporary global challenges of the 21st Century. He stressed also that BRICS has now become a strategic economic powerhouse in the multipolar world as well as the difficulty for most countries to diversify trade from China. Against this backdrop, he suggested that multilateralism is the key to manage future global risks.

On the margin of the Summit, Senior Minister Sok had five bilateral meetings with Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong, President of China-ASEAN Business Association (CABA); Vincent Lo, Chairman of Shui On Group and Former Chaiman of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC); Edward Tse, Founder and CEO of Gao Feng Advisory Company and Former Chairman of Booz Allen and Hamilton, China; Guo Wanda, Executive Vice President of CDI; Zhou Li, Publisher and Editor-in Chief of China Daily Asia Pacific. These meetings focused on ways to promote trade investments opportunities between Cambodia and China and Hong Kong.
