Sihanoukville (FN), Nov. 7 – Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said that under his leadership, the Royal Government of Cambodia is launching a master plan for the development of Sihanoukville and other coastal provinces.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Nov. 7) during his meeting with more than 15,000 workers in Prey Nob district, Preah Sihanouk province.

Samdech Thipadei added that Sihanoukville has great potential and if it is developed properly, the province will be the driving force for the national economy, especially for the provinces neighboring Sihanoukville.

The Royal Government has entrusted deputy prime minister Sun Chanthol to work on this master plan.

"We are developing a master plan for the development of Sihanoukville and other coastal provinces. It will not be at its fullest potential if we bring Sihanoukville to compete with three other coastal provinces in the country. We must bring the combined potential of all four provinces to compete with neighboring countries,” the premier underlined.

On the occasion, premier Hun Manet also advised to prepare and consider the four existing seaports, one in Sihanoukville, two in Kampot and one in Koh Kong. There must be a clear distinction between ports for tourism and ports for goods.

Samdech Thipadei added that Cambodia's four coastal provinces have all the potential for tourism, with investment targets set. For example, Sihanoukville has many island for investment, while Kampot also has plenty of natural resources available for investment.

In particular, the real estate sector also needs to be strengthened. In this sense, the Royal Government is working regularly on this matter, especially in Sihanoukville, the premier added.

In addition, strengthening security, order and stability is also an important factor throughout the country, especially in tourism and industry, because tourists cannot go to places where there is no security and no order and that also applies to investors.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also urged to consider direct flights between Sianoukville and other famous tourist destinations in the region in order to attract investment, create jobs and increase income for the people.
