Siem Reap (FN), Nov. 5 – Pich Chanmony, commissioner general of the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia (GGAC) and a member of the Asia-Pacific World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), stated that the 7th Friend of Asia-Pacific WAGGGS General Assembly hosted by Cambodia, is an important event to show the world the achievements of fellow members of the Asia-Pacific WAGGGS in helping young women and girls around the world.

Chanmony spoke during the opening ceremony of the 7th Friend of Asia-Pacific WAGGGS General Assembly on Sunday morning (Nov. 3) in Siem Reap.

"The 7th Friend of Asia-Pacific WAGGGS General Assembly is an important event for both the WAGGGS and especially for the Asia-Pacific region itself, which is a large regional meeting with the participation of all stakeholders to jointly review the progress and recognize the achievements of the Asia-Pacific WAGGGS from the past in the work of helping young girls and women around the world to gain knowledge, experience and possibility to build their better future,” Pich Chanmony underscored.

Chanmony continued that along with the gift of support, the highest path of guidelines from Cambodian queen mother, honorary president of the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia (GGAC) and leaders at all levels of the GGAC. The GGAC has consistently strived to fulfill its obligations and achieve many achievements by adhering to the mission and role of the association in line with the goal of the WAGGGS to help drive young girls to become good citizens who are responsible for themselves, their families, their communities and their country, and in line with a specific vision of wanting to see Cambodian girls and young women live in morality, freedom, equality, dignity and be proud of their culture and identity.

Pich Chanmony also emphasized that the girl guides and girl scout movement is a non-partisan organization based on voluntary movement that will not affect the study or work performance of each member. In addition, the movement aims not only to provide fun for girls and young women, but also as an informal educational activity that provides opportunities for girls and young women to try out various social activities to build their confidence and interest on social issues and national development.
