Germany Commits to Bolstering Health Care Infrastructure and Primary Services through Capacity Building

Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 31 – German ambassador to Cambodia Stefan Messerer pledged to continue to support the promotion of Cambodia's health sector.

Health minister Chheang Ra met with German ambassador to Cambodia Stefan Messerer on 30 October 2023 at the Ministry of Health.

During the meeting, the German ambassador stated that Germany will support the Ministry of Health in strengthening the health system, improving the health system, such as capacity building, development of health infrastructure and promotion of primary health care services.

In addition, Germany is currently contributing to the health sector on a number of projects as follows:

1. Social Health Protection Project of the Royal Government of Cambodia in accordance with the Health Strategic Plan
2. Implement decentralization and deconcentration of the health sector to the sub-national level by improving the quality of health services, health care financing and health information system management.
3. Improving Social Protection and Health (ISPH) since 2021, which will be completed in September 2024
4. One Health 4 Cambodia (OH4CAM) provides technical support on the development of standard policies for pre-service health vocational education.

The German ambassador also briefed the assistance of the Federal Republic of Germany in the field of health since 1996 on the construction of infrastructure, training facilities and the National Institute of Public Health, human resource training, health management at the grassroots level, national level and the offers of postgraduate study in public health.

Health minister Chheang Ra, welcomed and thanked the German Embassy in Cambodia for supporting the Ministry of Health in building a health care system in Cambodia through GIZ Technical Assistance and Financial Cooperation of KfW to the health sector.

At the same time, the minister thanked the people and government of the Federal Republic of Germany, especially the ambassador, for reaffirming continued support for health priorities and pledging to expand the scope of Cambodia-Germany bilateral cooperation in health sector for well-being of the Cambodian people to achieve global health coverage program in line with the Pentagonal Strategy - Phase I of the 7th mandate Royal Government under the wise leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
