Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 27 – Cambodian deputy prime minister Sun Chanthol and Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi chaired the 26th Meeting of the Cambodia-Japan Joint Committee Meeting under the Agreement between Cambodia and Japan for Liberation, Promotion and Protection of Investment on 26 October 2023 in Phnom Penh.

Representatives of ministries and institutions, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC) and about 200 representatives of Japanese companies operating in Cambodia attended the meeting.

The Agreement was co-signed by former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe on 14 June 2007.

On the occasion, Sun Chanthol extended a warm welcome to the presence of Ueno Atsushi, representatives of Japanese ministries, institutions, associations, organizations and the private sector. He also thanked all Japanese investors who have strengthened and expanded their business operations and investment projects in Cambodia.

In this sense, Chanthol said that the investment boost reflects the trust of foreign investors, in general, Japanese investors in the Royal Government of Cambodia in maintaining peace, macroeconomic stability, favorable investment environment and an open investment policy that is conducive to investment and ensures competitiveness.

Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi congratulated the deputy prime minister on his appointment as the first vice president of the Council for the Development of Cambodia. Ueno Atsushi strongly believed that the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister will continue to contribute to the strengthening and expansion of bilateral cooperation in promoting and attracting high quality and standard investment.

At the same time, Ueno Atsushi praised the Council for the Development of Cambodia and all relevant ministries and institutions for their past efforts to coordinate and provide a gentle response to concerns and requests of Japanese investors.

The meeting began with discussion on the challenges and requests of the private sector, and concluded with positive solutions to further promote long-term cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the private sector.

Before concluding the meeting, deputy prime minister Sun Chanthol requested the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, together with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC) to cooperate with the Royal Government of Cambodia in organizing programs to attract investors and promote more positively about Cambodia's investment policy and other incentives to potential investors in Japan.
