Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 27 – Cambodian post and telecommunications minister Chea Vandeth had a working meeting with Australian ambassador to Cambodia Justin Whyatt to discuss the current cooperation and ministry's priorities on cyber security, radio frequency spectrum resource management, and submarine cable systems.

The discussion was held on 26 October 2023 at the Ministry.

Minister Chea Vandeth warmly welcomed the ambassador and his delegation. Vandeth briefed the reform of the Ministry in the past and the priority activities of the Ministry, such as (1) Organization of telecommunication infrastructure in Borey in Phnom Penh and other priority provinces, and the connection of submarine cable systems; (2) Establishment of national institutional infrastructure; (3) Policy development; (4) Preparation of laws and supporting legal documents; (5) Establishment of digital transformation unit in each ministry and government institution; (6) Establishment of platforms and technology programs (7) Promoting digital education through scholarships, establishing community technology centers, internet connection, school management system, organizing digital internships and so on.

Ambassador Justin Whyatt congratulated and praised the Ministry for its great achievements under the leadership of minister Chea Vandeth, and further inquired about the ministry's work and authority regarding online fraud.

On the occasion, the minister informed that regarding online fraud, the ministry has closely cooperated with the relevant ministries and institutions, especially the Ministry of Interior. The ministry has worked hard to manage and control the phone number registration, which is the main source of online scams. In the future, the ministry will implement the registration system.

Lastly, the minister also requested the ambassador to encourage Australian technology companies to invest in Cambodia and asked the Australian Government to assist in constructing and installing community technology centers in any province of Cambodia.
