Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 25 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), stated that in the alliance agreement between the CPP and 27 other political parties, the parties must commit to abiding by the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia, protect the constitutional monarchy, and promote multi-party liberal democracy.

Samdech Techo spoke during the signing ceremony of the alliance agreement between the CPP and 27 other political parties on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at the CPP's headquarters.

“The problem we need to discuss here is the protection of the constitutional monarchy […] In the past two or three years, there were an ill-intended person who demanded the king to step down from the throne,” said Samdech Techo.

“The Cooperation and Alliance Agreement stated that we must jointly commit to abiding by the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia, protect the constitutional monarchy, and promote multi-party liberal democracy, human rights, respect for law and social justice; therefore, we must work together to defend the constitutional monarchy, protect the throne, and protect our king,” Samdech Techo underlined.

Samdech Techo continued, the Constitution stipulated that revision or amendment affecting the system of liberal and pluralistic democracy and the regime of Constitutional Monarchy shall be prohibited. He added that those who insult the king or demand the king to step down seriously violate the Constitution.
