Kampong Cham (FN), Oct. 25 – Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said that the Royal Government of Cambodia has agreed with the United Nations (UN) to evacuate the Cambodian peacekeeping forces in Mali following an attack by rebels.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Oct. 25) during his meeting with more than 12,000 workers in Kampong Cham province.

"A few days ago, I had to give my consent to withdraw our blue berets from Mali as the UN began the evacuation,” the premier underlined.

On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that the UN has decided to withdraw tens of thousands of peacekeeping forces from Mali, of which nearly 100 are Cambodian blue berets.

Cambodia, since 2006, has sent over 9,000 peacekeepers to carry out UN peacekeeping missions in Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Chad, Mali, Yemen and Central African Republic.
