Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 24 – Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet shared six recommendations to the Ministry of Health and all stakeholders to improve the provision of health services.

The premier spoke on Tuesday morning (Oct. 24) during an inauguration ceremony of Techo Santepheap National Hospital, Phnom Penh.

The six recommendations are as follow:

1. The Ministry of Health must consider and pay attention to improve the quality of health services at the sub-national level, especially to strengthen health centers and referral hospitals to provide basic services to the people, as well as strengthen the capacity of provincial hospitals in the examination, treatment and health services to increase efficiency and reduce the cost for the patients.

2. Encourages the continuation of cooperation between ministries and institutions to ensure the effective implementation of the equity fund for poor households and the social protection, especially to ensure that no Cambodian citizen is denied access to health care due to inability to pay the service fee.

3. The Ministry of Health must maximize the public and private health service delivery mechanisms, as well as strengthen the training of health and soft skills. Encourages all health officials, doctors and medical care professionals to pay more attention, especially to prioritize the saving of human life above all else, and adhere to professional ethics with sincerity and respect.

4. The Ministry of Health shall cooperate with the relevant ministries and institutions, especially the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the General Department of Customs and the Cambodian Customs and Excise, as well as other relevant ministries and institutions, to jointly prevent and strengthen production control, food processing and import of food and medicine. This inter-ministerial mechanism must also promote the awareness of harmful and unhealthy foods.

5. The Ministry of Health shall cooperate with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications within the framework of the Digital Government Committee to accelerate the use of digital systems in the health sector as a whole, especially in all hospitals, both national and sub-national, and to promote digital health literacy to doctors, physicians and health officials.

6. Requests the Ministry of Health to cooperate with other relevant ministries and institutions through the National Council for Social Protection to achieve the provision of health care towards a global health coverage program.
