Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 8 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet expressed condolences over the loss of life of one Cambodian student during a clash between Israeli and Hamas forces.

“The Royal Government is deeply saddened to learn that one Cambodian student was killed in a clash between Israeli and Hamas forces since 7 October 2023,” the premier addressed a special voice message on Sunday (Oct. 8).

“The government has coordinated to rescue four students from the red zone (one of whom died) and the three are now safe with the Cambodian honorary consul in Israel.”

The most important task of the Royal Government to ensure the safety of the Cambodian citizens living in Israel, especially our students. In this regard, the Royal Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, and relevant ministries have been working closely with their partners in Israel to (1) cooperate with the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of Cambodian citizens; (2) to contact with the Cambodian students and make sure we can communicate with them as well as coordinate with the Israeli authorities to assist them in case of emergency in order to ensure their safety and life.

Premier Hun Manet also shared his condolences with the family of a Cambodian student who lost the life in Israel.

“The Royal Government will make every effort to cooperate with the Israeli authorities to bring the body of the student to the kingdom, so the family can prepare funeral in accordance with the tradition; and that all the funeral arrangements will be covered by the Royal Government.”

Samdech Thipadei called on the Cambodian citizens in Israel to maintain their safety and adhere to the instructions of the Israeli authorities and wished all Cambodians in Israel safe.
