Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 25 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet requested to speed up the negotiations on the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) between Cambodia and India, speaking in a meeting with Indian foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New York on 23 September 2023.

The treaty seeks to promote and protect investments with the objective of increasing bilateral investment flows.

During the meeting, the premier stated that the two countries are committed to strengthen relations and work together to achieve fruitful results for agreements already signed and explore potential areas for new agreements.

On the occasion, the Indian foreign minister also highlighted security and military issues. The two sides agreed that cooperation should be strengthened through regular and frequent exchanges of views and experiences.

As for tourism and culture, the Indian foreign minister proposed that projects on innovation and conservation should be developed as the two countries have a historical relationship for thousands of years.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei also thanked and highly appreciated the progressing demining initiatives as it contributed to Cambodia’s vision to become a mine-free country in 2025.
