New York (FN), Sep. 24 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet asked how would an ill-intended group react after Cambodia earlier received an 18-million-dollar assistance from the United States for Cambodia's development.

The premier spoke during his meeting with Cambodians living in the US and Canada on 23 September 2023.

"Some people said the US cut the USD18 million in assistance for Cambodia's development after the kingdom held its general election. Yesterday, the US decided to resume the assistance without prior request from the Cambodian side. […] The US counterpart also pledged to enhance the bilateral relations. In this sense, you [ill-intended group] should understand the relations between Cambodia and the US," the premier underscored.

"Yesterday, I met with the US acting deputy secretary of state Victoria Nuland and the same radio station broadcasted that the US called Hun Manet for questioning. Unlike what they said, I came here for the UN Summit, not for questioning. We even discussed ways to expand Cambodia-US relationship,” Samdech Thipadei added.

Premier Hun Manet received US acting deputy secretary of state, Victoria Nuland on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the General Assembly in New York on 22 September 2023.

"The talks focused on ways to seek measures to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation to the next level. Victoria Nuland took the opportunity to inform Samdech Thipadei that the United States had decided to resume USD 18 million in assistance extended to Cambodia through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that had been paused following this year's general election," according to the outcomes seen by Fresh News dated 22 September 2023.
