Beijing (FN), Sep. 15 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet met with Chinese top leaders during his official visit to China on Friday (Sep. 15).

Early in the morning, premier Hun Manet led a high-level delegation to pay a courtesy call and discuss work with Chinese president Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the meeting, president Xi Jinping extended a warm welcome and emphasized that Cambodia-China friendship is like a huge tree with deep and strong roots, and both nations have long reaped the benefits of it.

The president also congratulated Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on his recent appointment as Cambodian prime minister for the 7th legislative mandate. The president is confident that under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei, the friendship and solidarity of the two countries will continue to grow and become even stronger.

President Xi also took this wonderful opportunity to send his regards to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, president of the Supreme Privy Council of the King, who has overcome all obstacles and external pressures in order to maintain and strengthen the friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

In response, prime minister Hun Manet thanked the Chinese leadership, especially president Xi Jinping for the warm welcome during his official visit.

Samdech Thipadei also conveyed greetings from Samdech Techo to president Xi.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also thanked the country and the people of China for their attention and warm welcome to the visit of Cambodian king Norodom Sihamoni and queen mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in Beijing.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the continuation of the policy of peace. President Xi affirmed that China remains a good friend and will continue to assist Cambodia on the path of economic development. The current official visit of the prime minister will bring more success to the achievement of building Sino-Cambodia community with a common destiny in the new era.

Prime minister Hun Manet also informed the Chinese president of Cambodia's stance on "One China" policy.

Samdech Thipadei further highlighted the long-standing Cambodia-China relations in all fields, especially economy and education. The development and progress of Cambodia today is inseparable from the support and cooperation of its Chinese friends, as with China's support in the difficult circumstances of the fight against COVID19 and so on.

Premier Hun Manet outlined the direction and areas of future cooperation between the two countries, such as energy, food security and investment. The premier also requested the Chinese side to continue to support Cambodia's guarantee of energy security and food security, and thanked for the import of rice and other agricultural products from Cambodia.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also thanked China for its past efforts to encourage Chinese investors to invest in Cambodia, particularly in key priority areas that benefit the Cambodian people.

Before concluding the meeting, the Chinese president reaffirmed to the prime minister that China will continue to support and cooperate with Cambodia in all fields, and China is committed to protecting justice for both nations from any negative attempts.

President Xi Jinping stated that China is always ready to welcome the visit of his old friend, Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
