Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 15 – Police arrested Hok Bunreth for allegedly forging a royal decree to appoint himself as the assistant to Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet.

The suspect was arrested in Phnom Penh on Friday morning (Sep. 15).

Hok Bunreth confessed and admitted that he had forged two royal decrees. First, a royal decree dated 1 September 2023 to appoint him as deputy director general of the General Department of Human Resources of the Ministry of Interior. Second, a royal decree dated 4 September 2023 to appoint himself as assistant to the Cambodian prime minister and fake business card as an advisor to Samdech Sar Kheng with a rank equivalent to undersecretary of state.

Bunreth said he used personal computer to commit the crime at House No. 155, Street 7A, Sangkat Kantouk, Khan Kambol, Phnom Penh.

On 15 September 2023, the cabinet of Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet issued a notice to the leaders of all ministries, institutions of the Royal Government, and authorities at all levels, as well as public audiences to be aware that ill-intended people have frequently claimed to be assistants of senior leaders for their personal gains.
