Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 14 – Cambodian president of the National Assembly (NA) Khuon Sudary and Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi pledged to jointly strengthen the two countries' diplomatic relations and cooperation, particularly in bilateral trade, human resource development, and people-to-people ties.

Khuon Sudary received a courtesy call by Japanese ambassador Ueno Atsushi on 13 September 2023 at the National Assembly.

Taking this occasion, the president of the National Assembly lauded the previous achievements of the former Japanese ambassadors and the current ambassador in assisting and enhancing the relations and cooperation of the two nations. Sudary stressed that Cambodia and Japan have a long history of relations and cooperation, and this year marks the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Japan diplomatic ties.

Sudary highlighted that Cambodia-Japan relation is a heart-to-heart relation based on common values, mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual benefit.

In addition, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Japan diplomatic ties, Cambodia and Japan have elevated cooperation to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership". Khuon Sudary underlined that Cambodia is very proud and grateful for the socio-economic development. Japanese investment in many potential sectors such as banking, technology transfer, automobiles, and job creation has contributed to poverty reduction in Cambodia and helping Cambodia achieve positive economic growth.

For his part, Ueno Atsushi congratulated the president of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary on her recent appointment.

Furthermore, the Japanese ambassador vowed to work hard to successfully fulfill the diplomatic mission in Cambodia, especially to boost bilateral trade volume, encourage Japanese tourists and investors to come to Cambodia, and promised to continue to provide scholarships to Cambodian students and civil servants, assist in human capacity building and human resource development.

Japan has made significant contributions to the peace-seeking process and development in Cambodia, and such action will always be remembered by Cambodian people, Khuon Sudary told Ueno Atsushi.
