Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 26 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that Cambodian king Norodom Sihamoni will appoint him as president of the supreme privy council to the king.

The premier spoke in a special message on Tuesday (Jul 26).

"For my future political life, I will continue to be the president of the ruling party and a member of the National Assembly. In addition, the king will appoint me as the president of the supreme privy council to the king after I step down from prime minister," the premier underscored.

At the same time, Samdech also confirmed that on 25 February 2024, he will become the president of the Senate, replacing Samdech Say Chhum in the new term.

Samdech added that interior minister Sar Kheng, national defense minister Tea Banh, national assembly-senate relations minister Men Sam An, and some other deputy prime ministers will also step down. Although Samdech will resign from the Royal Government, he will continue to hold the position of president of the Cambodian People's Party.

Premier Hun Sen pointed out that the king will also appoint Heng Samrin, Sar Kheng, Tea Banh and Men Sam An as personal advisors.
