Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that nuclear-powered submarine project has become a geopolitical competition that sparks concern for the world.

The premier spoke on Monday (June 5) during a graduation ceremony for students of the Royal University of Law and Economics.

The premier said that geopolitical competition is causing problems for our ASEAN region. Some countries are now sending nuclear-powered ships closer to Southeast Asia and heading for the South China Sea.

According to premier Hun Sen, the group of nuclear-powered submarines between the United States, Australia and Britain has also become a hot topic of ASEAN and countries in the region.

"It is the beginning of an arms race. I understand that if this situation continues, the world will be in greater danger,” the premier added.

On that occasion, Samdech also expressed hope that the United States and China would be able to find a compromise to avoid tensions.
