Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that geopolitical competition become a hot topic in the contemporary world as now NATO is involved in activities of the Asia-Pacific region, bringing concerns for the ASEAN region.

The premier spoke on Monday morning (June 5) during a graduation ceremony for students of the Royal University of Law and Economics.

"Geopolitical competition has become a hot topic for the contemporary world, not only the Russia-Ukraine war but now the Asia region becomes the target of dangerous challenges," the premier underscored.

"NATO only exists in the west, and now it seems to be involved in the Asia-Pacific region in various activities, bringing concerns for ASEAN," the premier added.

On that occasion, Samdech reaffirmed that ASEAN has the unique principle of being a nuclear weapon-free zone and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Samdech also expressed hope that the United States and China would be able to find a compromise to avoid tensions.
