Kampong Speu (FN), Jun. 4 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen underlined that Cambodia has asked China, Japan, South Korea and the Asian Development Bank to continue to provide loans with favorable interest rates when Cambodia leaves the least developed countries (LDC) status.

The premier spoke on Sunday morning (June 4) during a meeting with more than 16,000 workers in Kampong Speu province.

According to premier Hun Sen, Cambodia will exit the LDC status in 2027. Therefore, after leaving the status, Cambodia will no longer receive trade tariff preferences and loans offered at commercial interest rates.

Premier Hun Sen stated, "we have negotiated with our friends China, Japan, South Korea and the Asian Development Bank to continue to provide development loans with low interest rates when we leave the LDC status."

On that occasion, Samdech also said that this issue requires additional consideration, as countries also have their own principles.

Cambodia aims to elevate itself from a low-middle income country to an upper-middle income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.
