Sihanoukville (FN), May 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen criticized the West for refusing to accept Cambodia's continuous explanation of the Ream naval base, speaking at an inauguration for the official use of tire factory, held on Monday (May 22) in Sihanoukville province.

Premier Hun Sen added that if they continued to refuse to understand Cambodia's explanation, Cambodia would not understand their explanation for the nuclear-powered submarines.

“I have said three times in ASEAN about nuclear-powered submarines. I think this is the starting point, if not the danger to ASEAN, it is the starting point of the arms race in the region,” the premier added.

The United States, Britain and Australia formed the AUKUS Alliance in 2021, with the United States and Britain helping Australia build nuclear-powered submarines. The deal has been criticized by China as likely to provoke an arms race, with some countries in ASEAN expressing concern over nuclear warheads.
