Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 25 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen expressed his desire to run for commune chief candidate when he stepped down as premier, speaking at a graduation ceremony at National Institute of Education on Tuesday (Apr 25).

“I consider running for commune chief somewhere for a few months in the 2027 election if I am going to step down as prime minister,” the premier underlined.

Being a commune chief would allow me to understand how local officials work and be able to monitor the real situation at the grassroots level, the premier added.

On that occasion, Samdech called on humanitarian assistance and encouraged commune chiefs in their respective communes to help build teachers' housing.

Samdech also recalled how commune chiefs were responsible for all the works in the past, in particular during his observation of the grassroots level in the 1980s.
