Siem Reap (FN), Apr. 14 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced that the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport may open in October 2023, speaking at the opening ceremony of Angkor Sankranta, held on Friday (Apr 14) in Siem Reap province.

Once the airport is built, Cambodia will be able to receive large long-haul aircraft flying directly from other countries, the premier added.

Siem Reap will also attract more tourists and massive investment in the future, making the province a rising star in the north of Cambodia, said premier Hun Sen, adding that Siem Reap will become more attractive not only for tourism but also for industrial areas, which will contribute to solving difficulties and generating income for Cambodians.

The Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport broke ground on 15 March 2020 on a 700.06ha site in Sotr Nikum district’s Ta Yek commune east of Siem Reap town, with total capital investment of nearly USD 1 billion.
