Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 24 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen instructed the Ministry of Economy and Finance to increase investment capital for cashew nut processing in the country in order to make Cambodia a cashew nut emperor, the largest exporter of cashew nuts in the world.

The premier spoke at the closing of an annual meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries, held on Friday (Mar 24) at the ministry.

On that occasion, Samdech added that Cambodia has the ability to compete for No. 1 in the world in exporting cashew nuts. Today, Cambodia has surpassed Ivory Coast in the export of cashew nuts.

Samdech continued, currently, the area of unprocessed cashews is also increasing, so if Cambodia has a good processing plant, the production of cashew nuts will become greater.

Viet Nam and India are the largest exporters of processed cashew nuts, but they import cashew nuts for processing in their respective countries.

Samdech added that according to the report from minister Dith Tina, the production of cashew nuts lacks a capital of only USD 6 million.
