Pursat (FN), Mar. 14 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked environmental activists opposing hydropower plants whether they want to use oil lamp.

The premier spoke during inspection of construction progress of Stung Pursat 1 Hydropower Plant, held on Tuesday morning (Mar 14) in Pursat province.

"Some people have opposed using hydropower plants, but they also demanded a solution for electricity prices. How to solve this issue? Oil is too expensive; coal pollutes the environment; and hydropower plants made some areas suffer from floods. In this regard, do we have to go back to oil lamp?" the premier asked.

Samdech stated that electricity not only fulfills the requirements of people, but also the industry and tourism sectors.
