Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 13 – Australian ambassador to Cambodia Justin Kevin Whyatt pledged to enhance cooperation with Cambodia.

The ambassador paid a courtesy call on prime minister Hun Sen on Monday (Mar. 13) at the Peace Palace.

According to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth, the ambassador informed the premier that he was delighted to return to work in Cambodia after he completed his mission in the kingdom 20 years ago.

The ambassador also praised the leadership of premier Hun Sen in combatting COVID19 pandemic as well as chairing the ASEAN Summit and related summits in 2022, which further elevated Cambodia's prestige.

On that occasion, Justin pledged to work to improve relations between Cambodia and Australia, including promoting people-to-people ties, investment, agricultural cooperation, health, demining, social affairs, democracy and human rights, national defense, and prevention of transnational crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking and other crimes.

Premier Hun Sen welcomed and congratulated the ambassador on his appointment as ambassador to Cambodia.

In addition, the premier expressed his pleasure at the cooperation between Cambodia and Australia, in particular on agriculture which Australia has helped establish the Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI).

The premier also thanked the Australian government and people for providing vaccines to prevent the spread of COVID19. Samdech added that Cambodia's success in preventing COVID19 is inseparable from the support and assistance from Australia.

Samdech thanked the government and people of Australia for their assistance to Cambodia in demining and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment, and other areas.
