Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 17 – Russia will send its troops to attend training on demining in Cambodia under the initiative of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen if Russia received the invitation.

Sergei Shumilin spoke in a press briefing on the foreign policy of the Russian Federation, held on Friday morning (Feb 17) at the Russian Embassy in Cambodia.

"I would like to reiterate that I am glad that premier Hun Sen welcomed all nations around the world to receive training (demining) in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The statement of premier Hun Sen also mentioned the Russian Federation. However, in order to receive the training, we need to receive a formal invitation letter. Then, we will make a positive decision in this regard," Sergei Shumilin underscored.

On 26 January 2023, PM Hun Sen announced that Cambodia welcomes all countries who want to receive training on demining, adding that the provision of mine clearance technical training is purely a humanitarian affair.

On 20 January 2023, 15 Ukrainian deminers completed demining training course conducted by Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) with the support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
